A Gift of Vision

In our effort to give back to the society, Ceylon Cold Stores (CCS) is giving the gift of vision by conducting eye camps in rural Sri Lanka for cataract screening.

Launched as a joint project of CCS, John Keells Foundation (JKF) and Vision 2020 programme we have conducted a series of eye camps at Dambulla, Panama, Horowpathana, Sooriyawewa, Ranala, & Pitabeddara during the last few years, providing over 400 people with lense replacement surgeries for cataract treatment, free of charge.
Eye camps conducted at each area are facilitated by the medical practitioners, and technical staff from the neighbouring hospitals, who are aided by the volunteers from CCS. The location for each camp is carefully selected by CCS and JKF, which provides coordination assistance with the Vision 2020 programme, local medical staff and organisation. Moreover, we conduct extensive promotion campaigns within the locality using public announcements, leaflets and banners to ensure the highest level of participation.

Our capable group of volunteers rally days before the eye camp assisting event organizing and other preparation work at the local venue ensuring a smooth turn of events,
On the day of the camp participating medical doctors conduct eye-screening to identify patients who would require corrective surgery, noting down measurement for lenses and required information for the surgical procedure.
Patients are provided with the appointment dates for surgeries during the screening process and are requested to admit themselves to the hospital for surgery while we provide the funds for lenses, which are provided by the Vision 2020 programme prior to the surgery date.
